Presidents' Day Teaching Ideas and Craft

Presidents' Day is celebrated in the United States on the 3rd Monday in February. This year we will celebrate on February 20th.  Many schools pay particular attention to George Washington's birthday which is February 22. Abraham Lincoln's birthday, which is also in mid-February, is also often celebrated this month.

I found this great video that gives the names and pictures of all the presidents from George Washington to Donald Trump. I think the kids will enjoy it.  I want to thank the creator of the video, Mr.Harms, for sharing it with all of us. Click the link below to view the video.

Of course reading with the kids about the different presidents including Washington and Lincoln is always a great idea for Presidents' Day. Here is a sampling of books you might find at your library.

If you would like to make a craft with the kids, here is a fun windsock to make to make using patriotic colors of red, white, and blue. Click the picture below for directions.

If you are looking for a nice educational craft to make with your students, I recommend paper plate clocks. Paper plate clocks are always a hit and can be used over and over again with the kids while learning to tell time. Click here to go to my blog post which gives directions for this fun winter clock.

Now you probably need a good book to read with your students. I recommend a poem by Robert Frost - a wonderful kids' version with illustrations by Susan Jeffers. Check with your local library to see if they have any copies. Read my post about this book here.
